How to choose the suitable waterjet pump when I want to buy a set of waterjet cutting machine?

It needs to start from the perspective of the buyer’s own cutting needs. Generally speaking, there are currently two types of waterjet pumps in the waterjet market, one is a hydraulic intensifier pump, also known as a linear intensifier pump, and the other is a direct drive pump.
Hydraulic intensifier pump: It is an intensifier pump that uses hydraulic oil to convert low-pressure water into output high-pressure water through the reciprocating motion of the piston of the booster cylinder for cutting.  It mainly consists of three parts, high pressure part, low pressure part and hydraulic part.

According to the needs of the market, we have introduced two different types of motors for customers to choose from. One is the traditional three-phase asynchronous motor, which is used by most of the waterjet booster pumps at the beginning. Compared with the servo motor, this motor has a simpler structure, better working performance, and a cheaper price, but it is difficult to adjust the speed, the starting current is large, it is easy to be overloaded during operation, and the loss is relatively large.

The other is the servo motor. We believe that in terms of future energy saving, emission reduction and sustainable development, the servo motor will also be a trending product in the future. Compared with the three-phase asynchronous motor, the servo motor has high displacement accuracy, high positioning accuracy, wide speed range, and good system reliability. The most important thing is that because it is equipped with an encoder, the servo motor can achieve more precise closed-loop control, which cannot be achieved by a three-phase asynchronous motor. However, the price of the servo motor is many times that of the ordinary three-phase asynchronous motor.

  1. Determine based on the thickness of the material you want to cut. Generally, the material thickness that can be cut by waterjet cutting machine is about 2-200MM. Compared with some foam materials, such as sponge, the thickness does not exceed 300MM. If it is too thick, it will affect the cutting edge and effect.     2. The cutting speed needs to be determined according to your daily production volume. Usually, besides the material and thickness of the cutting material, there are two main factors affecting the cutting speed of the waterjet pump: one is the flow rate of high-pressure water output, the greater the flow rate, the higher the cutting efficiency; the other is The pressure of the waterjet pump, the greater the pressure, the higher the cutting efficiency.
    3. Pressure, we have both 60K psi and the 90k psi for your reference. The overall volume of the waterjet pump with 90K psi pressure is larger than that of ordinary 60K psi pumps, and the price is several times that of ordinary pumps, but the cutting efficiency and the thickness of workpieces that can be cut are also beyond the reach of ordinary pumps.
    4. Frequency of maintenance and ease of maintenance. Both direct drive pumps and hydraulic pumps require regular maintenance. However, the maintenance frequency of direct drive pumps may be relatively more.
    5. Noise. The operating noise level of a waterjet pump is usually between 50 decibels (dB) and 80 decibels (dB), and this range can be used as a general reference. However, please note that this is only an approximate estimate, and the specific noise level still depends on many factors, such as the pump model, power, working status, and installation environment.
    It’s worth noting that humans perceive sound differently depending on how the noise level increases. 50 decibels can be considered mild noise, equivalent to the volume of ordinary conversation. And 80 decibels is considered a relatively high noise level, similar to car traffic noise or the sound of a fan.
    6. Budget. Even though a pump with 90k psi and large flow rate can increase the cutting speed, the price is very expensive. When purchasing a product, it is better to choose the one that is most suitable for your working conditions according to your budget.
