waterjet FAQ:
How Waterjet Cutting Heads Work?
Waterjet cutting heads work based on the principle of erosion. High-pressure water or abrasive-laden water is forced through a small orifice in the cutting head, creating a fine, high-velocity jet that is capable of cutting through materials.
In abrasive waterjet cutting heads, abrasive particles are mixed with water before being forced through the orifice. The abrasive particles in the waterjet stream accelerate to high speeds due to the pressure, and upon impact with the material being cut, they erode the material, creating a cut. The abrasive particles act like microscopic cutting tools, allowing the waterjet to cut through hard materials.
Non-abrasive waterjet cutting heads, on the other hand, rely solely on the high-pressure water to cut through materials. The waterjet stream is focused into a narrow beam, which is capable of cutting through soft materials by eroding the material at the point of contact.
