Waterjet Cutting vs Laser Cutting vs Plasma Cutting?

1. Cutting principle:
The water jet cutting machine uses the waterjet pump (two types: intensifier pump & direct drive pump) to pressurize the small water flow with a pressure of 60,000 psi or even 90,000 psi to directly penetrate the material to achieve the cutting effect.
Laser cutting uses a high-power laser beam to melt, burn or directly vaporize materials to achieve the purpose of cutting. Usually, the laser beam is focused by a mirror or an optical fiber. The current plasma cutting is the use of electric arc cutting, which is also a way of thermal cutting, and the purpose of cutting is achieved by melting the material.

2. Cutting speed:
The cutting speed of the water jet cutting machine is slower than that of the plasma machine, especially some relatively thick materials have no advantage in cutting speed, but the range of materials that the water jet machine can cut is wider, and the thickness that can be cut ranges from 2-3mm Materials up to about 300mm can be cut, and the speed of laser cutting is between water cutting and plasma cutting.

3. Cutting width:
The cutting edge of the water jet machine is narrow, about 0.1-1.5mm; the cutting width of the plasma is wider, usually about 1.5-6mm, which will cause waste of cutting materials, and the cutting width of the laser is also very small. Between 0.1-0.5mm.

4. Cutting precision:
Both water jet machines and laser cutting machines are capable of cutting complex graphics with greater precision than plasma cutting machines.
